Balancing act

Blog 5B

I think that I do have a good balance of time going on so far this year. I found that I out that I had a good balance but I think that I could make some changes to make it better. I study for a total of 24 hours and that is good but not great. I think that I could take some time away from hanging out and socializing. I would add it to the time that I should be studying. In total I take about 4 hours of time out of the week to nap. I think that I could be doing something more productive. I think that I am going to balance out this week with some more time to study and do homework and a bit less time for napping and hanging out talking to people. But I think it is important to keep some time for hanging out and socializing because that is also a big part of the college experience. The one thing that you can take away for this study is that it is important to have you time balanced out well. If you do not have the right balance it can mess you up with getting all your work done on time and having it done with good quality. I know finding this balance is important and doing my work is the most important thing for me because I know how important a college education is important for my life.  I think that if I keep working on it I can find the perfect time schedule that will work for the rest of the year. By doing this I think I will be more relaxed because I will feel my college work is under control and know  I will be able to graduate.

Off to a good start

I am happy with what I have done so far this school year. I am staying on top of all of work that I need to get done and I am not fallowing behind in any of my classes. The thing that I have found the most difficult this year is the transition form high school work to the college work. When you have to read something you really need to go to class with a good understanding of it because the teacher will not be going over it with you but to have discus about what you have read and your thought. One thing that I am a little disappointed about is some of my test score I think that I might have to change the way I am studying so I can get the best score on my test and also so I can have a better understanding of it. I liked the idea of the knowledge vault because it is a good way keep what you learned for when you may need it in the future. I think will be one of the goals I will set for myself so I have a record of everything I leaned that is easy to get to. The most important daily practice that I have used in college to help me get better grades and to keep on my work is keeping a calendar. I was looking at an article about study tips for college students and it said a lot of the study habits we learned in the past are not good. I looked at some of their suggestions and thought some of the ideas were good like alternating study places and working in groups. Even though I am happy with what I have done so far this year in school I think I will still try some new things to advance my own self -improvement. I am not sure what I will do differently but I am going to try out a couple of things I learned about and see what works best for my study habits.

New Words

BLOG4V

The word of the week is delayed gratification. What the word delayed gratification mean to me is when someone will wait to get something that they want even if they do not want to wait for it. When talked about this in class with the marshmallow experiment and how we might have experienced it in our own life. One way I can think of an example of this in my life is when I am home and I can smell my moms cooking and I just want to start eating but I know I have to wait for her to put it on the table. Two other words that I heard a lot about this week were ethos and pathos. Ethos is someone who is a trustworthy or someone who you can believe. Pathos is something you see are can hear that makes you feel emotion about something in your life and also gives you evidence.

Ethos & Pathos

Football Time

BLOG4I

This week we went to the football game to show some Owls pride. It was a good way to spend a Friday night. I went with a bunch of people from my floor. This was the first game that I made it to this year. It was also the first game the football team won this year! It was a great time the game stayed pretty close for a long time but in the end the SCSU beat Merrimack 40 to 34. The one thing that I did not think was fair was the free t-shirts they were giving out because there were only 100 for students who live on campus and 200 for students who live off campus. I thought that was stupid because we are all students and it should just be the first 300 students. I had a really lot of fun in the stands with my friends and would go again.

The Key to Success

BLOG4B

The key to have a successful live is to know how to have self-control and how to wait for delayed gratification? I think you do need to have self-control in your life because if you can’t control how you act how will you be able to sit and get your work done when all you want to do is go out and have fun? If you do not have self-control you will not have very much success in your life. You would not know how to stop and work on one thing and do it to the best of your ability, you would be going from one thing to the next one without thinking if you did it right. You need to know how to balance out everything that is going on in your life and what need to be done first, what can wait and what you should do to get yourself the furthest.

If you can’t have delayed gratification in your life and you need someone to tell you that you have done great you will not make it far. You need to know how to work hard and not always was get the reward for it the moment you are done. If you work hard and now you will get the credit for your work soon because you did a great job on it. If you do not it is shown that the kid form the marshmallow experiment who could not wait “the children who rang the bell quickly, seemed more likely to have behavioral problems, both in school and at home.”  You need to have a good balance with self-control and delayed gratification to have the best things happen to you in life so you can work hard and know that you did great and that you have control over everything that is going on in your life.

Work for your Future

BLOG4A

The one thing in my life that I think that many people will say that was worth waiting for was graduation high school. When I knew that I had one week before I would be done with the longest four years of my life I thought of all the work that I had put into it. What I had learned and how much I had grown over that time. It was very much worth the wait because if you did not do the work and get through it you would not be able to move on to college. That is what were all working for to get into college and it was worth the time and work.

I do think that as a whole country that we do have problems with waiting for things. We have gotten used to having everything at our finger tips with our smart phones and other technology. We need to get everything as fast as possible. When I look at someone getting mad because their twitter will not load on their phone fast enough I have to stop and laugh. It is like we cannot wait for anything that we have lost all self-control over life. Like when it says “Whether you're resisting a favorite food or completing a dreaded task, exercising self-control in different areas of your life saps the same mental energy source.” From Resistance Training For Your 'Willpower' Muscles. We need start using that part of the brain. I think what we have to do things differently that we have to learn how to wait for things again. We need to stop and think about what is happening in our life that we need to stop thinking about what is happening right at that second and start thinking about what we have to do next or what the future has for us.

To do it Believe It

BLOG 3V

If you every walk into something saying that you can do this and you will do great you are a motivated person. I think that having motivation is when you are willing to work hard at anything and not give up until you have reached the goal that you have set for yourself. You can have motivation to anything you set your mind to but I find it hard sometimes to stay motivated all of the time.

Another word for this class that I think goes hand in hand with the word motivation is mindset.  Mindset is a way of thinking that a person does when they have a good attitude. I think that if you do not have a good mindset then you will not do well at what you are working on.  The last word that we talked about in class was Self-esteem. To me self-esteem is having confidence in the things that you do and that you have confidence in you self.
